Highlights

Lowlights

1. News of Theresa’s defeat on 13th tee.

2. Condition of course, but greens in particular.

3. Afternoon weather.

4. Appearance of Dr. B

1. Embarrassingly slow first Freens’ group in morning round.

2. Two Freens, who ought to have known better, being seduced into accompanying a drunken Muir to spend the night before in Warkworth and additionally to have taken instruction from said inebriated despot as to best way to get there. Shame for the rest of the company not to have seen Wood’s fury.

3. A couple of senior moments from DL, illustrated below, where he and his trolley parted company in the breeze.

4. It’s hard to believe, after the previous day’s exploits, but, on being asked for his car key by Muir, Collin stupidly handed it over to the main man; who promptly lost it.  Only the action of a considerate person who found it on the course and handed it in, rather than making off with Collin’s car, saved the day.  Will he never learn?

1. The only real highlight worthy of record is the fact that it was possible to discern at odd points some of the classic Mackenzie features that he used here in 1922 and which found fuller expression at Augusta, eleven years later.

Lowlights

1. We did know in advance, but even so, the recently cored and sanded greens were not a lot of fun - see below.

2. Some Freens - work it out for yourself - either swerved the afternoon round altogether or packed in short of home - and were suitably shamed by the dafties who stuck it out.

3. Psycho’s 15 minute business call on the 3rd tee might have been somewhat abbreviated without damaging the jollity of the occasion.

4.  Another cryptic note which might refer to here or the weekend was “Jock and shorty” - any thoughts?

1. Return of Graeme to the scene of his very first Freens’ outing. 2. A very good day weather-wise on a very scenic course. 3. Nothing else noted - Webmaster seriously disaffected by now - any thoughts anybody?

Lowlights

1. There is a note here suggesting that JM left his mark on the landscape by taking a leaf from Leo’s Ballater playbook - but without the convenient hut - surely not!

22nd  February

Weather: Generally a bit dull, but pleasant temperature and basically windless all day - a perfect day for golf.

Winners: Morning – Psycho   Afternoon –  Ian J. ; Day – Kenny

1. There is no contest for Number One status here.  It has to be Collin’s realisation, as he was about to pay his sub for the following year and that it included a credit on his card, that his credit for this year was unused, followed by his discovery that it needed to be used by next Thursday or it would be lost.  The result was free drink all round on Collin - a splendid effort and well worthy of a Freen, in so many respects!

2. Unheard of event when Psycho made an acute turn to the left; a situation instantaneously rectified, however, by the arrival of his ball on the far side of a fairway on Luffness, the last bastion of rectitude.

1. Swiftly following on from his recent triumph at the Dunbar Seniors, JM failing to count Ian Johnston’s card correctly, although Ian still managed to win, but KC did actually win the day and did not become entitled to the Rivet merely on account of being the highest scoring Freen.  Spotted by Auditor after initial loading of website.

2. The following was a highlight above, “2. Comfortable victory on the day for new guest, Ian Johnston, making his first (and last?) appearance at a Freens’ outing.”  You will understand from Lowlight 1, why it is no longer there and has been moved down here!

New Freen Picks up Rivet (metaphorically!)

Lowlights

1. Webmaster’s notes for this day are on a par with Stato’s for Auchterarder unfortunately, and contributions from others have been at the normal - zero - level.

Evidence the day was what no Freen is, viz. nice, but dull

Psycho’s fairway

Winner;  Rumour has it that it was Kenny, but as the outing apparently never happened it’s difficult to say.

Another wee gem

Weather: A beautiful afternoon and evening

Highlights

Just being there at that time was a highlight with the secondary benefit of hanging on to a small residue of the Freens’ credibility by squeezing in another round.  Beautiful views across to Ireland.  Catch the Youtube video on the club website - this is the link https://youtu.be/XfQiBHtUC-Q .

Weather: Another grand day

Winner : –  Collin

1. Outstanding effort by Collin. 2. Just another perfect Freens’ day.

Lowlights

1. Bomber not being fit enough to manage a final round.

2. Not enough (any) pictures of Freens - APART from this for which thanks are due to the Freens’ very own Francis Ford Coppola (TT) - press here to view.
