Dumfries & County

23rd  September

Weather:  Sunny again, but slightly cloudy at times.

Winner: Eck

It was a slightly downbeat close to a memorable weekend and this was due to a combination of factors.  The principal one was the previous late night for most Freens.  This probably accentuated the hilliness of the course for all of us: and the wonderfully dry course with springy turf of the day before provided a greater contrast to the very wet underfoot conditions.  That having been said, the course managed to produce a win for the class act of the field (in spite of some early mutterings from said class act.)

Summary

There have not been many poor Freens' weekends, but this one was right up there.  Even meteorologically we had probably the best period of weather over three consecutive days in the whole of this year.

Among a few memorable comments there were Muir's musing that "I should have been a priest" - only God knows why.

Contributions from Philip Scofield, Botox Bob and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (whose peripatetic shufflings will live long in the memory).  Can anyone remember, however, why Jock envied Kirsty Gallacher?

Also good to think that sometime in the future a married couple in Dumfries will reminisce about their memorable wedding reception that was replete with interesting characters, including one who moved a piano, with pianist to enliven the evening!

Lastly, the Three Guitarists or, as they have come to be known, the Nuptial Pied Pipers!  What a performance, and the first stirrings of the Klack Clique were felt.

It was appropriate that this outing was won by DJ because, besides organising the day, he also gave a fine and moving speech at lunchtime as a requiem to our terribly missed friend, Robin.

2012

Use of Stableford scoring – again! After arranging to be picked up by his wife at lunchtime, Jimmy accepting lift instead and failing to contact wife – or identify her car – on way home!

Highlights

Barney repeatedly shouting a warning "Fore" at a lifebelt on the 13th hole.  The damn thing would not get out of the way! The amount of food supplied made even Freens call for less - see picture of lunchtime sarnies!

24th August

Weather: A fine bright day all day.

Winners: Morning - Juggy ; Afternoon - Juggy ; Day - Juggy

How do the Freens do it?  By any measure 2012 has been a rotten year for weather and yet we managed once more to pick a grand day for our grand day out and, in spite of the wet weather there has been, the course had stood up to it very well.

Jugmesiter's next hole, after his hole -in-one.  Two hole average recalled as level 5s ! A spot of grumping here and there ! Another hole-in-one by the Jugmeister. The Jugmeister demonstrating we were not doomed after all. The Jugmeister's second shot to the 18th in the afternoon to wipe a widening smile of someone’s face ! Next Page
