24th August 2001
The home man, Judo Doug, won AM and John PM with season’s best 71, but son of John, David, ground out two runner-up spots and appropriate Kilmacolm emblemed shirt. The first winning next generation Freen.

Craigielaw
DP won a.m., but long course suited DR who won for first time in yonks, an excellent green golf shirt!
Highlights
1. New course which was something different, either superb (Phul & Eck) or “Mickey Mouse” (DK.)
2. Nearest the hole won by Ally prior to emigration.
3. Presentation by Doug of photo in best possible taste to DP. (Well worth the effort of winning, but not likely to be on view to the general public terribly often so long as Mrs. P is household curator - Ed.)

Erick, after a sleepless night, was relentless with a great round of 77, but it took its toll p.m. And Doug (Judo) triumphed to win a generously donated bottle of Ardbeg (Phul). This cast a shadow over the weekend.
Highlights
1. Erick’s Fawltyesque story of being disturbed during the night by a rat. He attacked it with a Sand Wedge (which in DP’s view was the wrong choice of club.)
2. Bob W. baggimg a £170 eagle at the 13th. It is a proper eagle and he can hold his head up.
3. Games room hosting Modern Triathlon of Bowls, Darts & Table Tennis.
Lowlights
1. Freens looking down their collective nose at Stableford (We played it when we were here in 1991, fortunately for DJ’s wife, who was on the opposite of a promise.) (If anyone actually reads this I am sure they will be as keen as the Webmaster to find out what the hell DJ meant by this!)

This is the “see below.” Can anybody - maybe DJR - say what this word is, because its the one in DJ’s notes that describes US Dick’s problems and we don’t want to get this wrong!

(Played Stableford, but converted)
DK won morning with a breezy 28 points, but financially secure Bob won p.m. And day, so was happy recipient of (what subsequently proved to be) superb prize from Eck of “Director for a Day” at Easter Road for Bob — and his mate —- and his mate’s family etc.
Highlights
1. Brilliant weather amidst capricious conditions around Britain.
2. First ever 3 round marathon by DP & JM.
3. Rangers getting gubbed by Celtic in the White Hart Hotel, Port Ellen. Atmospheric, with the locals’ T shirt “10 reasons to hate Protestants” the highlight. (Shome mishtake, shurely - Ed.)
4. Major Sing-Along-a-Barney in the evening.
Lowlights
1. Barman, who was also taxi driver, painter & decorator, had off licence and Postmaster, who left Burntisland to get away from stress (and a bottle of whisky a day.)
2. Ryder cup being postponed (Sept. 11th - Osama Bin Laden), but no satellite, so irrelevant.

Stableford, not converted
As only 3 completed their rounds the result was more a test of character than golf, but DP followed up his previous day’s 3 rounds with a win in everything. A great prize is anticipated courtesy of Judo Doug - tasteful example of his art has been pledged.
Highlights
1. Judo feeling “dizzy”, i.e. Ardbegged after 3 holes
2. Exciting journey home via bus/boat/bus/car, arriving back at 2.45 a.m. Due to wind.
3. Display of organisation and mobile phone skills by organiser and assistants to arrange major expedition back to base.
Lowlights
1. Only 2 Freens (+ Mark) managing 2 rounds. (JM in particular followed up 3 rounds the day before with none!)
2. Same JM demented gundog-like at airport following ticket loss.
3. Great weekend, but was rather disjointed by trips to distillery, pub and differing agendas.
Later note - Refund being negotiated by top legal brains (or JM) for non-flight home.
